Probate Court

Judge Bedelia C Hargrove presides over DeKalb County Probate Court. The Probate Court has jurisdiction over the probate of wills, administration of estates, appointment of guardians and conservators for incapacitated adults as well as minors, and mental health commitments. The Probate Court also issues marriage licenses and weapons carry licenses and performs a number of other administrative duties. Standard forms and probate resources are available at gaprobate.gov. 

Hours Of Operation & Location

There are two locations, both in the same building, for the  DeKalb Probate Court.

Location: DeKalb County Courthouse, 1100 Judicial Tower (first floor)
Function: Estates, Guardianships, Conservatorships, Mental Health, Auditing and Records
Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Note: Please arrive by 4:00 p.m. to allow sufficient time for processing. Filings received after 4:00 p.m. will be stamp filed and processed on the next business day.

Note: Customers filing Lay Affidavits (Orders to Apprehend) must arrive by 3:30 p.m. to allow sufficient time for processing.

Parking & Public Transportation
Paid parking is available in the parking deck located behind the courthouse at 125 West Trinity Place. The Decatur MARTA station is located next to the courthouse.
